Air Quality Alert for most; Hot today with slight chance of showers, storms

Today will be hot with increasing clouds and a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms starting in the afternoon and continuing over night, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.

There is an Air Quality Alert in effect until midnight for Clark, Darke, Greene, Miami, Montgomery and Preble counties, issued by the Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission and Regional Air Pollution Control Agency, as smoke from Canadian wildfires settling in the area increases air pollution levels.

Predicted pollution levels are considered “unhealthy for sensitive groups” like children, older adults and people with cardiac and respiratory disease.

Residents can help reduce air pollution by avoiding driving, idling their vehicles, refueling before 8 p.m. or using gas-powered lawn equipment.

Highs will be around 85 degrees today.

The slight chance of rain and storms will continue throughout the night as temperatures dip to around 56 degrees.

Cincinnati and the Tri-State area have the greatest chance for rain, with the Dayton area around 19%, according to NWS. Dayton could get up to 0.1 inches of rain.

Wednesday will kick-off a period of cooler temperatures, with highs reaching the mid- to upper 70s.

Skies will be sunny overall, with dry area moving back into the region by the afternoon.

On Wednesday night, it will be mostly clear with a low around 51 degrees.

It will be sunny on Thursday, with highs near 75 degrees, followed by a mostly clear night with a low around 52 degrees.
