Sunny, mild with heightened fire danger today; Cooler temps on the way

Below-freezing temperatures expected Friday night

Today will be sunny, warmer than normal and windy, with a higher danger from fires, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.

The NWS said that due to dry vegetation, low humidity and gusty winds fires could more easily spread and become out of control, so it recommended against any outdoor fires.

Highs will be around 69 degrees today, falling to around 46 degrees tonight.

It will be mostly clear overnight.

On Thursday, it will again be sunny with a high near 69 degrees.

However, clouds will begin to build up in the evening and overnight, with a slight chance of rain beginning after midnight. Lows will be around 52 degrees.

Veterans Day will have a chance of rain in the morning that will drop off in the afternoon. It will be cooler, with a high around 62 degrees.

Winds will briefly pick up and skies will clear on Friday night as temperatures drop to around 28 degrees.

Cold air will settle into the region Saturday, bringing chilly temperatures with highs in the upper 30s to low 40s.

Overnight lows will drop into the low 30s and linger around freezing.

Cooler weather is expected to remain throughout the weekend and next week.
